IAM- The Institute of Administrative Management

(IAM) is one of the oldest management institutes in the UK and has been inspiring its members since its foundation at the London School of Economics in 1915. In its fascinating history the IAM has seen a great deal of change, including two World Wars and a continually evolving office environment but it has always stayed relevant to the needs of its members. Today the IAM provides professional institute services for a sector footprint covering some 12% of the UK working population, including:

  • Business managers
  • Administrative managers and senior administrators
  • Personal and executive assistants

Products & Services

As a professional institute, the IAM:

  • Works with IQ to ensure the suitability of qualification structures for the administrative management profession
  • Provides networking events for members
  • Develops and provides Continuing Professional Development events
  • Publishes the Manager magazine, as well as an academic journal
  • Provides members with on-line access to a range of journals and e-books
  • Allows members to use post nominal letters commensurate with their professional status.

Individual Membership

Member (MInstAM) and Fellow (FInstAM) grades, provides the opportunity to use professional designations after the member’s name. Student and Affiliate membership packages are also available.

Corporate Membership

Corporate membership allows organisations to support the professional development and recognition of staff working in administrative management in a co-ordinated way. IAM offers two tiers of corporate membership, which grant access to a wide range of benefits.

For companies with more than 50 IAM members, there is the opportunity to operate their own internal chapter of the IAM. In this environment, IAM CPD and networking events can be held in company, and IAM is able to work with company personnel to approve internal training for CPD recognition.

International Chapter

IAM is building upon its wide network of learning providers internationally, to recognise international chapters. The chapters are designed to act as a kernel for development, providing most of the services available from IAM in the UK, but within the context of the economy which they serve.
